What is ABA parent coaching?
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) uses evidence-based strategies to build skills such as communication, play and independence. In parent coaching, you learn these strategies and use them with your child during everyday routines, with weekly guidance from a Behaviour Analyst.
I've heard mixed things about ABA. What does your approach look like?
That's a fair question, and I'm always glad when parents ask it. ABA has changed a lot, and how it's practised matters. My approach is play-based, follows your child's interests and respects their comfort and willingness to take part. We focus on skills that matter to your family, like communication, independence and connection, not on making your child look or act "typical". You choose the goals with me, and nothing happens without your agreement.
Does my child need an autism diagnosis?
No. Children without a formal diagnosis may still benefit from a parent-led ABA approach. We'll talk about your child's needs during the free discovery call and decide together.
How much time will it take each week?
Coaching sessions run 45 minutes to an hour. Beyond that, you'll practise during two or three routines you already do, plus a short weekly data summary that takes about five minutes.
Can I use OAP funding or insurance?
Yes. OAP funding is accepted, and many private health insurance plans cover behavioural services. Check your plan for coverage under "behaviour analyst" or "behavioural therapy".
Can other caregivers be involved?
Absolutely, and it helps. When grandparents, nannies or other caregivers use the same strategies, your child learns faster and with less confusion.
